The Cross I Wear

 A-Poem-a-Day

Until Resurrection Day

THE CROSS I WEAR

“For God so loved the world, that He gave

His only begotten Son, that whoever believes

in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”

John 3:16 NASB

I have a little cross I wear

on a chain around my neck

It was a birthday gift

from my husband

The cross is gold, studded

with tiny diamonds

and a sapphire

It’s precious to me

beautiful to look at

and beautiful

for what it represents—

the death of My Savior

Ironic, isn’t it?

Ironic, like Good Friday

that something so exquisite

should remind me

of cruel injustice

excruciating suffering—

the Crucifixion of Jesus

Our Spotless Passover Lamb

Yet I actually do find it beautiful

because Jesus’ death on the Cross

is the fulfillment of John 3:16—

the purpose of God

from all eternity

It atoned for my sins

and yours

and culminated

with His glorious Resurrection

and that Resurrection

assures us of God’s promise

of life in Heaven forevermore

Nothing could be more

Beautiful
